EU citizens in Poland
A citizen of another EU country lives in Poland under the free movement of persons. We explain which formalities apply.
An EU, EEA or Swiss citizen does not need a residence permit or a residence card. For up to 3 months they can stay in Poland with a valid travel document or identity document (Art. 15 of the Act on the entry of EU citizens).
A longer stay requires meeting one of the conditions (work, resources and insurance, studies or marriage to a Polish citizen) and registration of residence - see registration of residence. After 5 years you acquire the right of permanent residence - see right of permanent residence.
Family members from outside the EU get a residence card - see family member of an EU citizen. We describe address registration in the guide address registration.
